Volley Ball: Fitness

Once again, the girls went head to head with the boys in Volleyball for fitness. At first I was a bit nervous about going against them but as we continued to get more and more points, I grew more confident and started hitting the ball more often.

Our first game was so energetic. There were times when the girls team would get points, by serving. But same went with the boys. I’ve got to admit Inoke was an exquisite server, but then again, so was Linda, Whitney, Maara and I. Later in the game it was 14 points to 13, to the girls, match point. I served with all my might, watching the ball hover in the air, then dropping rapidly. At that moment I knew we had won the game. We cheered in delight and gloated a little.

In the second game we won again. Most of our points we earned was from our serving. Our serving was really good, who could blame us for having good aim ;,). This time the points were 15-12 to us mighty girls. Once again we cheered and gloated in delight and happiness.

Just as we began to get a little cocky, we lost the 3rd game. We were a little devastated but we were determined to win the last game. The points for the 3rd game was 15-12 (again!) to the boys. At that moment, all I could say to the boys was “Good game boys, good luck! You’re gonna need it ;,)”.

This time, it was first team to reach 3 points. To us girls, our strong point was our serves, so we used that as an advantage. With Linda serving, we were bound to win. Which is exactly what we did. As the reigning champions, the boys would have to bring a tougher fight next time!. Image result for Volleyball

Volley Ball🏐Week 2

Today for Kiwi Sports we were playing Volleyball. Our coach, Coach Antonia or Toni went over the important steps in playing volleyball such as Digging, Serving, Spiking, Setting and 3 touch. We practiced serving and digging the ball to our partners remembering to keep our hands straight.

Then we had a competition on serving. The point of the competition was to serve the ball to your partner and catch it. If your partner catches the ball 20 times then they receive a lolly. Levi F and Alfred had received the prize.

Afterwards we were put into 6 teams to have 3 whole volleyball games. The first game that my team had was a bit dull, but my team made it fun. We ended up winning by a great amount of points. For our last game we just lost by one point. I learnt a lot more skills and more ball control.

Volley Ball Session🏐

Another term means another exciting sport. This term the sport that we are being taught for Kiwi Sport is Volleyball. Volleyball is one of my favourite sports and I speak for all the girls and some boys in my class.

Our coach Antonia (or Toni for short) taught us basic skills on how to set the ball, control and hit the ball. The volley balls Tony had brought were much softer and lighter than the balls we had at school, so it was much easier to hit. The first skill we learnt was the “dig”. The dig is an hand movement to hit the ball over the net or to another player. We had practiced hitting the ball back and forth to each other using the digging movement. We also learnt how to do proper 3 touches, which is when you pass the ball in the air 3 times to the players and over the net.

Afterwards, we were taught another important skill. This skill was learning how to set properly. Tony showed us that our two thumbs and two index fingers had to join creating a circle or diamond shape. Then all we had to do was push the volley ball upwards.

As we were heading to the end of our session we also learnt how to spike. Learning how to spike was very hard and I either hit the net or missed the ball. Though I was able to hit the ball a few times. For the spike I had to take one medium step forward with my right leg, a bigger step with my left and jump up on both legs, trying to hit the ball when our partners threw the ball up. It might not be confusing now but just wait til you try it.

At the end of the session we played quick games against 2 teams. My team, team 2 worked cooperatively but had a few faults. For our last game our components brought up a fight but at the end we lost by one. I really enjoyed playing games and freshening up my volley skills.
