Figure it out-Maths

Yesterday and today, my class were focusing on word problems from the Figure it out books. The page I work ed on was the page about Listing factors.

I listed all the factors from 1-20. I found that there were numerous patterns in the factors I listed. I also found that there were eight numbers that only had two factors. All those numbers are prime numbers, (235711131719). Fun fact if you don't already know, Prime numbers is a natural number greater than 1 with no positive divisor. Prime numbers has exactly two factors, 1 and itself. I now know the factors of all the numbers from 1-20. Here are the factors for each number.

I also completed the next page which contained decimal problems. I found the decimal problems challenging and I think I rose to the occasion when I was given the questions. I really enjoyed working with the figure it out book, it really got me thinking hard!.

Measurement test

Today for maths, Taha were given a measurement test to do. The measurement test was quite challenging but I managed to fill in every answer. The purpose of the test, was so Mrs. Tofa knows what we need to learn in the genre of Measurement.  Measurement and maths aren't my best subjects, but I put in loads of effort. Most of the time, my group were very vigilant and quiet.

Group maths talk

For maths today, Taha worked on a maths problem about measurement together in groups of 3. Linda, Angelica and I worked together.

I found the problem challenging. I had to understand the little bits of information before carrying onto the questions. It was easier once we put our heads together and solved the problem as a team. Mixed and Improper fractions

This week for maths, I learnt how to convert mixed fractions into improper fractions. I can do this confidently knowing that I will get the answer right. Here are one of my tasks for this week.

Convert these fractions into mixed fractions

Explain a strategy for converting mixed fractions into improper fractions
Finding how many of the denominator can fit into the number or dividing the numerator by the denominator.
Explain a strategy for converting improper fractions into mixed fractions
Times the whole number by the denominator and adding on the number that is on the numerator.

Add these fractions
¼ + ½ = ¾

¾ + ¾ =1 2/4

⅘ + ⅗ = 1 ⅖

12/4+5/4= 4 ¼

Room 7's Favourite Basketball Team-Bar graph

For maths, we had to gather information on a certain subject from our classmates to find out what they like and dislike. The subject I chose was, Room 7's favourite Basketball teams(NBA). Here is my bar graph on the information I gathered on my some of my classmates favourite basketball teams, I only gathered data from 15 people in my class.

The most popular basketball teams in Room 7 is the Golden State Warriors(GSW) and Chicago Bulls.
The least favourite basketball team in Room 7 is Cavaliers, Phoenix and Lakers.

Geometry Observations

For maths we had a visitor from Miss. Stones university come observe our maths lesson. Today for maths we were learning about geometry. Maths was very interesting and fun!. This is the maths problem we were given.

Carries Cubes
Walt: identify classes of two- and three-dimensional shapes by their geometric properties.

Carrie has glued some cubes together to make a large solid cube with nine small cubes showing on a face.
She paints the large cube red.



Answers:
How many of the original small cubes have:
  1. three faces painted red
8 cubes

  1. two faces painted red

12 cubes
  1. one face painted red

6 cubes
  1. no faces painted red : 1 cube

Maths
  1. 22 X 2.5 = 55
Remove the decimal point and times the whole numbers together
22 X 25 = 550
And if I add the decimal point (.) back to the equation the 0 from 550 becomes 55.0 or 55


  1. 132 X 43 = 5676
(66 x 86=)
(6 x 60=360)+(6 x 6=36)
(360+36=396)


(80 x 60 4800)+(80 x 6=480)
(4800 + 480=5280)
5280+396+5676


  1. 34.9 + 32.3 = 67.2

Geometry Lesson‼

This terms focus in maths is Geometry. Geometry is one of my favourite but also hardest math genre. Today, we were learning about varieties of shapes, and things like Quadrilateral an Polygons. Our task was to cut out and name the different shapes. Then order them the way we wanted to. It was an fun and interesting maths lesson for I learned a lot of different names of shapes as well as the different parts of a shape.

Glen Brae Weather Forcast

For Today's Math session we were given an merely impossible word problem, temperature scale and a map. We had to help a "very rather clumsy" weather man figure out the temperature for suburbs and cities in NZ. With very little clues. At the end of our lesson we actually accomplished our work and got I would say 90% of the temperatures right(one wrong).

Word Problem
W.A.L.T Use appropriate units for temperature
This morning Dan Corbet (TVNZ Weather man) has to report the temperatures for different cities in NZ.
Unfortunately a gust of wind has just blown his notes away, and he only has a few clues about today's lunch times temperature in the wrong order. Can you help him piece the puzzle the facts together and then label the ma with the correct information.

Afterwards we took a video of each math group presenting their information as a weather women/man.

Kit Kat Equation

Today we had to find out the answer to a fraction equation. Math problem.
There were supposed to be 14 children in our group, how much chocolate would each child receive if their were 7 chocolate bars.

Answer:Each person will receive 1/2 of a chocolate bar or the equivalent fraction 7/14.
