For this task we had to research these local icons, Glenbrae school, Te Oro and Pak'nsave. We had to research the history about each place. These are what I found about those places.
I am a Year 8 student at Glenbrae School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 7 and my teacher is Mrs Tofa.

Healthy shared lunch-H.H
Last year, Glenbrae school hosted a Healthy shared lunch. Each classes were assigned a specific dish to make, Room 7 had to make healthy sandwiches.
Mrs.Tofa and Miss.Stone had provided the ingredients for us to make the sandwiches. There were different stations in our class, the bread and butter station, tuna/cheese station, vegetable station, cutting station and the station where they had to place the sandwiches inside the containers.
The process of making the sandwiches were very fun. I was in the tuna station, where I had to place the Tuna onto the bread. I’ve got to admit, it was quite tempting to eat, but I managed to keep my hunger under control. Who am I kidding!, I did eat some tuna and cheese, I just couldn’t resist. As the tuna ran out, I left my station to peak at the other stations.
At the vegetable station, they were doing a great job slicing the vegetables. Yes, I ate some and it was delicious. I helped a little before I had to returned my station to start on the batches of bread but this time using cheese, for those who were vegetarians. Later on, we combined the ingredients together to make a whole healthy sandwich. We started to plate the sandwiches and add a few finishing touches.
Afterwards, we took the sandwiches down to the hall where the other classes had set their food on the tables. There were pumpkin soup, vegetables and hummus, chicken wraps and fruit kebabs. All had the right amount of servings for the whole school. Everyone settled down, as it was time for the blessing of the food. Moments after, class by class stood up to go get their food. It was all delicious and the best part was that it was all healthy!.
My favourite part about the healthy shared lunch, was making the sandwiches as a class. Everyone worked together, happily and we made divine sandwiches!. This is my most exciting time, I've had at school!.

Math word problem-No.2-The treasure map💎🗺
The word problem
This word problem was really fun to work out. As part of this math problem we had to create a map, following the pirates directions, to find the treasure. As you can see the treasure has been found in 3,3 because it is half way between the first rock and the most western tree, as stated in the the word problem. Here is my Treasure map.

Faikakai Topai
his desert is a favourite in my family, it’s sweet and very delicious. Here is a recipe I received from an coconut cream website which is the exact same way my family makes it.. To visit the website click this link > http://www.ilovecoconutcream.com/faikakai-topai-dumplings-in-sweet-coconut-sauce/
- 2 cups raw sugar
- 2 cups of coconut cream (thick consistency eg. Kara)
Dumplings/Topai
- 4 cups of plain flour
- 4 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 cup of coconut cream
- 2 - 2 1/2 cups of water
- Pot of water to cook
Instructions
- Heat a large pot half filled with water and bring to the boil then reduce to gentle simmer.
- In the meantime make coconut sauce. Using a medium saucepan, gently heat the sugar on medium high heat, stirring, until it begins to melt. Take care not to burn the sugar by stirring the sides to avoid heat spots. Once the sugar starts to melt, reduce the heat slightly, then begin to drizzle about a tablespoon of coconut cream into the sugar mixture at a time, stirring it in well taking care not to burn yourself from the steam as the cream hits the sugar. Continue stirring in all of the cream until a thick golden coloured caramel develops. Remove from the heat and strain any hard bits of sugar and allow the sauce to cool slightly.
- To make the dough, sift the flour, baking powder and sugar into a bowl. Add coconut cream and water and mix until just combined. The dough should be fairly dry although wet enough to come away from the side of the bowl easily. Wet a tablespoon and scoop spoonfuls of dough and careful place spoon into the simmering water until the dough comes away easily into the water. Continue to spoon the dough into the water until the pot is full (remembering that the dough balls will puff up slightly once cooked.) Place lid over the pot and allow the dough balls to steam and cook gently for about 12-15 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove dough from the pot onto a platter. Cut open to test if cooked through. Whilst warm, dice dough balls into small pieces. Pour over coconut sauce and serve.
Notes
- To keep the dough light and airy, try not to over mix the dough and cook it on a gentle simmer with the lid on so it steams.
- Parcel up extras with a little foil to gift :)

School changes!
I am writing to the Minister education to assure her what I would like to change and have in Glen brae School. Hopefully I could persuade not only the Minister of Educations but those who are reading this write now.
Dear Minister of Education
Glenbrae School is a wonderful school full of a lot of resources but we are also missing out on some important resources. I believe that every school should have sport uniforms for every sport, improved playgrounds and a right for students to drop subjects. (Yes, I am dead serious).
First of all, Glenbrae School would like to have proper uniforms for the sports our children participate in. For example Netball uniforms, touch uniforms, soccer uniforms all of which our school don’t have. It is important for us to represent our school through what we wear. Also if we go to tournaments wearing our school uniform, the next day their uniforms will be all sweaty and smelly.
Secondly, our school playgrounds. We have had our playgrounds for 3 years and well it has grown dull and just not very fun. Yes, you can play many things but it’s not as fun. If you were to change our playgrounds here are some of my suggestions. In our senior adventure playground we could have:
-Rock climbing
-Sliding pole that comes down from the rock climbing
-Spider Web wall
For our Junior playground we could have:
-Tunnel Slides
-Large connect four
-Log platforms
I hope that you would take these ideas and make these adjustments to our playground.
Last but not least, for my sake I would like to change the right for all intermediate children to drop subjects. This change can make a change on what us children what to learn about. But then again these subjects are all involved in life. I may not persuade you to make this decision but it was worth a try. Hopefully you would take in almost all of my suggestions and make our school happy. Thank you, that is all for now.
Sincerely yours Luisa.
