All about fire study questions

One of the activity's my class were given by Mr.Naf in our science intensive lesson about fire, we were given questions to answer using a website(All about fire). Here are the questions and the my answers.

1. What is fire?

1a) A fire is a process in which substances are combined with oxygen igniting and creating light, heat and smoke. Fire is a substance that gives power, which is also a chemical reaction.

2. What are the three components of fire?

2a) The three components of fire are

• Fuel (A flammable liquid that will burn)
• Heat (High temperature that will forsure burn fuel)
• Air(Oxygen)

3. Identify and name the stages in a fire

3a) The stages in a fire are

• Ignition: Fuel, Air, Oxygen that ignites and creates a chemical reaction. To prevent further damage, this stage could be stopped by a fire extinguisher
• Growth: As the flames begin to ignite, convection and radiation ignate more surfaces. The size of the flames then increase largely
• Decay: Fire eats up any available fuel around, the flames slowly decrease and the fire's intensity also decreases

4. Fire spreads in three different ways. What are these different ways?

4a) The three ways are

• Conduction
• Convection
• Radiation

5. What are the four ways for putting out fires.

5a)

• Cool the burning material
• Exclude oxygen
• Remove the fuel
• Break the chemical reaction

6.      How are fires classified?

6a)Fires are based on the fuel type.

7.       Describe each types of fire.

Fire Safety Poster🔥

Today in Room 7's science intensive lesson with Mr.Naf, we did various activity's and learning about fire, fire hazards and fire safety!. One of the activity's we did, was creating a Fire Safety poster, using exemplars online to get a idea of what to create.

I created a poster which briefly shows the three steps of what to do if your clothes catch on fire. Hope you enjoy my poster.

Science Intensive: Earthquakes

Last week, Room 7 had three science intensive lessons. The lessons were about Earthquakes, Insulation and the three states of matter, (I actually only went to two lessons because I was away on one lesson). My favourite session was our Earthquake lesson with Ms.Sigamoney.

We did a information activity, where we watched a video about the various movements of the tectonic plates. I learnt the four most common ways they can move in which are. The plates move in four different ways. The plates could slide past each other, the plates could collide,  they move past each other, etc. It was quite fascinating learning these.

Our next activity was a more physical and hands on activity. We were told to create a earthquake proof out of 30 straws, clips, needles and a two meter long string. The challenge was to create a 2 story building out of the materials we were given. The building had to be stable and sturdy enough, that it can hold 20 grams of sand and a little bit of shaking. My group failed at first, but we redeemed ourselves and created a tower that looked a bit similar to the real model. The point of the activity was to make a building that was earthquake prone.

We carried on learning about making buildings more earthquake prone. Also how to reduce damage to a building during an earthquake. It all depends on the height of the building, structure material, the support of the building and the roof structure.

Out of all the activities we had done, I enjoyed building the house structures the most, it was fun and informative too!. I had loads of fun and

Air Pollution-Science Intensive Room 9

Today for Science Intensive, Room 7 was in Room 9's class with Ms. Sigamony. The topic we were learning about was Air Pollution. We talked about the causes, solutions and the effects of Air Pollution. Mrs. Sigamoney explained how air pollution is causing our Ozone layer and atmosphere to expand.

Here is a simple presentation that was part of our Science Intensive task which we had to complete. We also did an activity which I explain in my presentation. I had a very fun time with and informative time in Ms.Sigamony's class.
