Valerie wins Silver!

It was horrific that Valerie Adams did not win gold but also very great because she won Silver. Valerie was just beaten by a few centimeters. In first place was american athlete Michelle Carter who scored 20.63m in ther last attempt to place for the medals. Valerie had scored 20.42m in her 2nd attempt and on her last attempt to beat Michelle Carter's score she fell a little flat. She scored 20.39, I think.

Though Valerie didn't win gold, she put in a lot of work to qualifying at the Olympics. 

New Zealand's first Olympic medal🏅

Yes that's, right New Zealand had received their very first medal of the Olympics. The athlete who won the silver medal, was 28 year old Natalie Rooney. When this news spread to me I was very happy. Natalie competed in Women trap and came 2nd, winning the silver medal. In first place was Catherine Skinner, an Australian athlete. Both Athletes went head on head competing for gold. Congratulations to Natalie Rooney. 

Olympic Horror!!

I had just found out and watched a horrifying video of a French Gymnast who was competing in the olympics, he had broken his leg. As Broken his leg I mean his shin has twisted to the opposite direction. I really feel for this gymnast but so does his french supporters. As I watched the video, it seemed that as he was flipping in the air very fast, he landed and his foot banged onto the mat.As the gymnast Samir Ait was lying on the floor surprisingly calm he was then carried off in a stretcher to a standing ovation. This incident might effect his career as a gymnast and his ability to walk on both legs. I am just hoping that he will get better soon and revive from this horrifying incident.

Olympic Ceremony

The day of the Olympic ceremony was one of the most proudest days of my life, knowing that I am a proud New Zealander and Tongan. That day as I watched my two nations march proudly, I had more faith in both countries. I just hope the best for both countries as well as all the other countries competing. I also heard about countries that I didn't even know existed but one again there is more to learn about in the world.

Today in the news, the Tonga flag barrier was interviewed. This was because of how he was dressed, he was very oily and shirtless, the way of our Tongan people. It was amazing to see that Tonga was very talked about since the olympic ceremony. The Tongan flag barrier, Pita Taufatofua is competing in Taekwondo and is the very first to compete from Tonga. I hope he does well and does our country proud.

Day 5 ~Marjorie Gestring~Eddie the eagle

In 1936, a 13 year old girl named Marjorie Gestring became the youngest person to ever win an Olympic gold medal. She won the gold medal in the springboard diving competition. Imagine that you were alive in 1936 and you had the chance to interview her. What questions would I ask her?. Here are my Questions.

1- Marjorie, were you intimidated by the other athletes, if not why?

Day 4~Be the Inspiration~Which athlete do you choose?

If I were to choose to meet up with one of these Olympians:
-Lauren Boyle
Lauren Boyle: Lauren is a swimmer from Auckland. She typically competes in the 400m and 800m freestyle races and, in the 2012, finished in 4th place at the London Olympics (just one spot away from winning a medal)! This will be Lauren’s third trip to an Olympic Games. She is the most successful swimmer in New Zealand sporting history. -Stuart Farquhar
Stuart Farquhar: Stuart competes in the athletics (javelin throwing) competition at the Olympics. He currently lives in Hamilton but was born and raised in Te Aroha. He has competed for New Zealand at four previous Olympics games. His best ever throw was 86.31 m. That’s a long way! -Andrea Kilday
Andrea Kilday: Andrea competes in the sport of Taekwondo. This will be her first ever trip to an Olympic games but she recently won a gold medal at a large international competition in Papua New Guinea. Andrea was born in Christchurch and moved to Auckland in 2005 to train at the Sejong Taekwondo Club with her coach Jin Keun Oh. I would choose to meet with Stuart Farquhar. Firstly because I think he is a more successful athlete and has more experience from the others. Also I just love the sport he plays, Javelin. Believe it or not when I was younger I had won a bronze medal which is what boosted my sports confidence.

Day 4~Valerie Adams!~Be the Inspiration

Valerie Adam is continuous winning Shot put champion since 2010 to 2014. She has won Gold throughout the past 3 Olympic games making Rio the 4th Olympic game where she strives to get gold.

• Valerie Kasanita Adams, ONZM is a New Zealand shot putter. She is a four-time World champion, three time World Indoor champion, two-time Olympic and three-time Commonwealth champion. She will aslo be competing at this years Rio Olympics

Day 3~Rio poem~Sport Specifics

If I worked for TVNZ and were paid to attend the Rio Olympics and had to report at either the golf or rugby sevens competition, I would be nervous. To express my feelings of this event I wrote a poem.

What do I say?, what do I do?
If I mess up who do I go to?
There's nothing to worry about for i'll be okay
And the viewers out there, are miles away

How will I cope
Surely i'll still have hope
Just traveling to Rio has me jumping on my seat
Oh no here comes the terrible hot heat

Rio's not that bad it's a town of happy ought
Maybe when I return, i'll come back with happy thoughts
Interviewing talented athletes
Which they approach me with varieties of greets

Out of no where, the doubt disappears
My deepest fear, suddenly clears
Having a great time, meeting new people
Every interview there's always a loop whole

Day 3~Equestrian!🐴~Sport Specifics

At first I was very confused at what kind of sport is Equestrian, turns out Equestrian is an Olympic sport. Equestrian is a lot similar to horse back riding but with a lot more jumping.

Aim of the game

There are three different disciplines – dressage, jumping and eventing – in which riders must avoid accumulating(building up) penalty points for errors. -https://www.rio2016.com/en/equestrian

2 rules of Equestrian 

• Horses must be at least 9 years old to compete for the Olympic competition. 
• A bell is used to verify the rider that their is some sort of interruption, or the rider is eliminated and when they enter the arena.

Day 2~Olympic Mascots!~Tom and Vinicuis

For each city who hosts the Olympic games, they have to create a unique mascot and logo. Here are the mascots for the past 2 cities who had hosted the Olympic games.

Tom and Vinicius Video Episode #1
Tom and Vinicus appears to be Rio's representative mascot. I have no idea who is who but I am going to go ahead and say that Tom is the cat creature and Vinicus is the tree creature. In the video it shows both characters created by lights formed by energy which seemed to rub off the crowd at the Rio Olympic parade. As they are created they see the light form and catches their attention. They soon try to capture the light and end up face to face with eachother at the top of the hill. They soon make peace and jump off the hill.
